I apologize for missing some of our students on the Merit and Honor Roll list. It is never intentional when a student is not mentioned. We are proud of our students and look for every opportunity to share their success.

This week, the Red Cloud Community Schools Board of Education unanimously voted to offer a contract to Dr. Randy Gilson to serve as Interim Superintendent. As the District continues to plan for Dr. Gilson’s transition, the Board remains committed to keeping the community informed about next steps. The Board anticipates voting to formally approve Dr. Gilson’s contract at an upcoming public Board meeting.
The Board is fully aligned in its support of Dr. Gilson and his vision for the District. Dr. Gilson brings extensive experience in educational leadership, a strong focus on supporting students and staff, an extremely high level of professionalism, and a commitment to open communication and community engagement. The Board is confident that his background and leadership will provide stability and continuity as the District moves forward.
We recognize that there have been significant conversations and changes in recent months. The Board believes Dr. Gilson will work diligently to build trust and foster meaningful relationships within our schools and the broader community. We strongly encourage parents, students, staff, and community members to take the opportunity to meet with Dr. Gilson upon his arrival, as our District excels when we are united around the shared goal of supporting our exceptional student body and wonderful staff.

Yesterday, Red Cloud Schools had the opportunity to host our Mini Courses, and it was a fantastic day of learning, creativity, and community involvement. Mini Courses give teachers and community members the chance to share their hobbies, talents, and areas of expertise with students in a fun, engaging way. Each 90-minute session allows students to explore interests beyond the regular curriculum and experience learning in a whole new setting.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to our community members who generously shared their time and talents:
• Adam Cotton led a grilling mini course, giving students a master class in grilling and even gifting each student their own meat thermometer.
• Justin Armstrong taught a blackjack and poker mini course.
• Ana Armstrong hosted a Build-a-Board mini course, where students learned how to create their own charcuterie boards.
• Suzi Schultz quickly adapted to the windy weather and provided a tour of the historic Kaley House, along with another home currently being restored.
• The 4-H Extension Office hosted a mini course where students created Christmas decorations.
• Merle Illian welcomed students into his home for a hands-on mini course on taxidermy.
• Jana McNeill shared her expertise through a dog grooming mini course.
• Alley Cats taught students how to score in bowling, bowling etiquette and the fundamentals of bowling.
Thank you to these incredible community members, along with our teachers and staff, for making this day such a meaningful and successful experience for our students. We are grateful for the strong support and partnerships that make opportunities like this possible at Red Cloud Schools.
